Hranice na Moravě High-Speed Rail Terminal
From Hranice to the world. The new high-speed rail terminal in Hranice defines the modern character of 21st century transport: An architecture that combines functionality, sustainability, and spatial experience.
The task: To renew and redefine the brownfield area near Hranice railway station as a transport, urban and landscape centre of the region. To create a terminal that is not merely a transfer hub, but a living part of the city.
The architectural concept works with the composition of individual buildings — platforms, hall, viaduct and others — as independent elements that together form a harmonious whole. The transparent lantern of the departure hall allows daylight to enter and becomes the orientational and spatial centre of the proposal. The public space in front of the terminal opens up to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users.
Emphasis on spatial experience: landscape transitions, daylight-filled hall, connection to surroundings
Sustainable architecture: green roofs, water retention measures, photovoltaic systems
Flexible structure: phased construction and adaptable buildings
Landscape as part of the terminal: the city as a “sponge” for water retention, nature returning into transport infrastructure
